What is the difference between MB,GB,KB?

Could someone tell me the difference of the different bites. Can they be converted into hours and minutes? Downloading music and video to burn and would like to be able to figure out how to compile the right amount of bites before I start to burn, don't know much about this area and any help would be greatly appreciated!
